Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is a major concern surrounding the autonomous vehicle industry.  The sheer amounts of automated systems in a car creates concerning security flaws.  For example, the engine, breaks, infotainment system, autonomous driving software and other hardware all belong to a local network inside the car. Hackers can potentially compromise the safety of the passengers of autonomous cars; creating the need for manufacturers to provide real-time updates but would require internet access.  Automobile companies need to collaborate with the manufacturers to ensure security flaws do not pose a risk to consumers.   A manufacturer could consider providing the vehicle with internet access, which will allow a vehicle to be monitored by the cloud for potential security risks in real time. It would be ideal to consider hiring or collaborating with a technology company, as they would have the necessary skills to combat potential bugs and security risks.  Society is often reactive rather than proactive with security issues, adopting serious preventive measures only after a major incident has occurred.
